Function [CC]:

Mediates homophilic cell-cell adhesion (By similarity). Minor component of the myelin sheath. May be involved in completion and/or maintenance of the myelin sheath and in cell-cell communication. {ECO:0000250}.; (Microbial infection) Acts as a receptor for rubella virus. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:21880773}.

Metal Binding:

N/A

Site:

N/A

Tissue Specificity:

Found exclusively in the CNS, where it is localized on the surface of myelin and oligodendrocyte cytoplasmic membranes.

Disease:

Narcolepsy 7 (NRCLP7) [MIM:614250]: Neurological disabling sleep disorder, characterized by excessive daytime sleepiness, sleep fragmentation, symptoms of abnormal rapid-eye-movement (REM) sleep, cataplexy, hypnagogic hallucinations, and sleep paralysis. Cataplexy is a sudden loss of muscle tone triggered by emotions, which is the most valuable clinical feature used to diagnose narcolepsy. Human narcolepsy is primarily a sporadically occurring disorder but familial clustering has been observed. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:21907016}. Note=The disease is caused by mutations affecting the gene represented in this entry.

Sample Handling

Storage:

4°C

Stability:

This bioreagent is stable at 4°C (short-term) and -70°C(long-term). After reconstitution, sample may be stored at 4°C for 2-7 days and below -18°C for future use.

Preparation:

Reconstitute in sterile distilled H2O to no less than 100ug/ml; dilute reconstituted stock further in other aqueous solutions if needed. Please review COA for lot-specific instructions. Final measurements should be determined by the end-user for optimal performance.
